WebOS has a rather chequered past but that doesn't seem to bother LG. Now, it looks like the operating system is set to appear in a smart watch, according to a new developer site hosted by LG.

The new site teases a software development kit for a webOS smartwatch. The odd little Bean Bird from LG's webOS TVs appears, but this time with a wristwatch attached to its back (the clue is in the name, Bean Bird, honestly). LG is already well and truly invested in the smartwatch game, of course—there's the G Watch and G Watch R, which both use Android Wear. But, like Samsung using Tizen in some of its smartwatch models, it appears that LG wants to ensure that it's not relying entirely on Google.

Quite how useful that decision will prove remains to be seen. But you can perhaps expect to see a different kind of smartwatch on offer from LG before too long. [LG via Verge]
