If you've long lusted over a pair of the world's geekiest glasses, today all your Christmases come at once. For one day only, Google is allowing any United States resident to buy Glass.
The folks at Mountain View still expect you to become a Glass Explorer—which means ponying up $1,500 for the privilege—but you will at least be toting the smart specs ahead of the riff raff. The full consumer rollout of Glass, after all, is still to be announced—though it's expected to happen some time later this year.
While the purchase of Glass today might leave your wallet smarting, at least the kind souls at Google saw fit to update the device yesterday, just ahead today's broadening of availability. With that, you can expect better battery life (so it might last more than a handful of hours), some stability improvements (so it'll actually work) and a peppering of neat little software updates.
So, if you happen to have $1,500 burning a hole in your back pocket, today may just be the occasion to relinquish yourself of its burden. But remember: with great early adopting comes great responsibility.
