The Detail in This Apollo 11 Poster Is Almost as Amazing as the Trip Itself

Apollo 11 is the most famous space flight of all time, due to it being the trip that first brought human beings to the moon. Now, you can get a bit closer to what Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins experienced back in July 1969.

Artist Rob Loukotka has made a poster consisting of every single thing that was on Apollo 11. Clothes, food, gizmos, gadgets—every little, seemingly inconsequential knick-knack that shot into space all those decades ago are on this poster. Here it is.

“I researched all of the original NASA manifests and stowage lists of every item aboard Apollo 11,” Loukotka told io9. “Then I spent a month illustrating a massive infographic collecting every gadget, dehydrated food, lunar tool, etc. that was aboard Apollo 11.”

“Why would I DRAW such a densely complicated thing? I am apparently a masochist,” the artist added. “I just seem to have an obsession with data collection as well as drawing.”

Below are a few more detailed images from the poster. Head to Kickstarter, which is raising money for the collection of posters, to snag one. You have until July 21, the day after the moon landing anniversary. “In fact the campaign ends the minute the lunar module docks with the command module after leaving the moon,” Loukotka told us. Talk about obsession.
