No one is safe from being replaced by a robot in 2018. Not even fashion models, it seems.
Dolce & Gabbana made a splash this weekend at Milan Fashion Week with an army of drones that hovered their way down the catwalk. The drones carried handbags, but the stunt wasn’t without its share of technical difficulties.
Apparently the 600 people in the audience had to wait for about 45 minutes before the crew behind the scenes finally got the drones to work. And the audience didn’t even know what they were waiting for.

After 45 minutes — and what was surely a very stern talking-to from one Anna Wintour, who, later, lost her patience for the proceedings and leapt up from her seat after 40 minutes and several announcements passed — we learned what was so important: Drones. The gates to Dolce & Gabbana’s heaven opened up, and out flew a handful of drones toting a new style of handbag. They fluttered up towards the angels decorating the set before filing onto the runway.
So maybe drones won’t be completely replacing models just yet.
As you can see from the videos, the drones had their handlers walking along the side of the catwalk to make sure they didn’t crash into any of the famous faces in the crowd.
The gimmick may have been a bit awkward, time consuming, and not at all worth it, but that seems to sum up living in “the future” of 2018. Awkward, time consuming, and not at all worth it.
I guess we should just be thankful that these robots haven’t spoken with their American friends at Boston Dynamics yet. Nobody tell them the robots over in the US are just about ready for the uprising.
