Apple just released iOS 10 to the public, but there are problems.
Countless users report that the update has rendered their iPhones and iPads completely useless after accepting the over-the-air update of iOS 10. These people have been forced to open iTunes on a computer (PC or Mac), connect their bricked device, and restore from within iTunes.
A simple Twitter search reveals plenty of people who are experiencing problems. A common theme across these issues appears to be that people are using the over-the-air update rather than wiring their devices to a computer.
The iOS 10 update issues obviously do not bode well for Apple. The company is coming hot off a hyped September press event, where it introduced a bunch of new products. Apple was expected to seize the moment after its chief rival Samsung was forced to issue a global recall of Note 7 phones amid fears of exploding batteries. Now, Apple to have its own controversy to deal with.
But hey, at least the iPhones aren’t exploding.
Update 2:57 ET: Apple said in a statement to Recode that it has identified and fixed a bug that caused people to experience problems when updating to iOS 10. The statement reads:
We experienced a brief issue with the software update process, affecting a small number of users during the first hour of availability ... The problem was quickly resolved and we apologize to those customers. Anyone who was affected should connect to iTunes to complete the update or contact AppleCare for help.
